A new personnel addition marks the beginning of a new phase in the sporting development of the German Football Boarding School (DFI):
Christian Wimmer – coach, UEFA Pro Licence holder, academy director, and former professional footballer – returns to Rosenheim after successful years on the international football stage and takes over the position of Head of Sports at the DFI as well as the sporting leadership of the youth football department at TSV 1860 Rosenheim.

A ROSENHEIM NATIVE WITH INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

With Christian Wimmer, a true Rosenheim native takes on sporting responsibility at the DFI and for the youth of TSV 1860 Rosenheim.
Wimmer came through the youth ranks in Rosenheim and was developed at FC Bayern Munich – where he also won the German Championship. His professional playing career took him to Greuther Fürth, Jahn Regensburg and Hamburger SV, before an injury brought his career to an early end.

His subsequent career as a coach and leader is equally impressive:
As a UEFA Pro Licence coach, he worked with the Hungarian U17 and U20 national teams, served as academy director and sporting director at Wehen Wiesbaden, and played a key role in shaping the development of numerous young talents at the VfL Wolfsburg Academy – including as head coach of the U19s and the UEFA Youth League team.

Most recently, Wimmer successfully secured league survival as head coach of FC Schaffhausen in the Swiss second division.
Alongside his sporting expertise, he also brings strong academic knowledge: he holds a master’s degree in neuroscience – a field that significantly shapes his training philosophy.

A FORWARD-LOOKING RESTRUCTURING WITH CHRISTIAN WIMMER

With the appointment of Christian Wimmer, the German Football Boarding School is opening a new chapter. As Head of Sports, Wimmer assumes responsibility for the national and international sporting operations of the DFI. His role includes the strategic development of the sporting philosophy and the close integration of education, performance development and individual player progression.

The proven training and organizational structures of the DFI – combined with its impressive track record of transferring numerous players to Bundesliga youth academies – will be consistently continued under his leadership.

At the same time, Wimmer contributes his expertise as sporting director of the youth department of TSV 1860 Rosenheim, giving new momentum to the internal development of the regional youth pathway.

“I want us to create an environment where trust and appreciation form the foundation,” says Wimmer.
“An environment where players feel: mistakes are allowed – as long as you learn from them. It’s not only about talent, but also about character. Here, we believe in each other.”

A NEW ADDITION FOR CONTINUITY AND PROGRESSION

For both the DFI and TSV 1860 Rosenheim, the new Head of Sports stands for continuity and further development in equal measure.

“With Christian, we gain someone who combines highest professional expertise with humility, heart, and a deep bond with the region,” says Andreas Herbst, Managing Director of the DFI and Head of Football at TSV 1860 Rosenheim.
“He knows the journey of young athletes – from the first big dream to reaching the professional level – and understands what motivates them. With him, we are consistently continuing our path as a talent academy with heart.”

With this appointment, the DFI and TSV 1860 Rosenheim rely on the ideal blend of regional identity, professional structures, and sustainable youth development – fully aligned with the shared philosophy of both partners.
